NextGen 2025.3 Release Notes
This release provides significant updates to on-premises functionality. Some changes may apply to both on-prem and cloud customers. In general, here are the benefits for each type of user:
- Admins: Gain more control over VM lifecycle management, on-prem updates, and disposable VM provisioning.
- Students/faculty: Experience improved UI clarity and reliability in collaboration tools.
There are also architectural changes to enhance system scalability, security, and automation for hybrid deployments.
Here’s what’s included in the release.
On-Prem Enhancements
- Manage On-Prem Update Installs (Manual Check) ADMINS
Allows administrators to manually check for and install updates. Using the On-Premises Cluster Management tool, which is packaged with the on-prem deployment image, admins can see the current version of the Apporto software (appliance) that is installed on the cluster as well as the OS version installed on each node. The admin can then check for new versions and watch the progress of the update files downloading and installing into the cluster. - Delete an On-Prem Cluster ADMINS
Provides the ability to remove clusters from the on-prem environment when they are no longer needed. - Terminate Sessions ADMINS
Adds the ability to kill active virtual desktop/app sessions for on-prem admins. Previously, this feature was only available for cloud instance admins. This feature is useful for terminating user sessions that get hung up for various reasons. It can also be used to free up resources to save budget. - Change the Base Image Server ADMINS
Enables MSP admins to change which server in a pool is designated as the base image. If a different server is selected as the base image, future imaging events will be keyed off of the new selection. - Additional Permissions ADMINS
Assigns resource hub and desktop pool management permissions to on-prem instance administrators. These are not needed by cloud instance admins, as Apporto configures these items as part of its cloud service.
Hypervisor Integrations
- VMware and Proxmox: Deploy and Create Windows Images ADMINS
Enables administrators to create and deploy Windows-based VM images on their VMware or Proxmox infrastructures. - VMware, Proxmox, and Hyper-V: Support On-Prem Installation ADMINS
Provides images for installation of Apporto into VMware, Proxmox, and Hyper-V on-prem hypervisors.
Single-Use VMs
- Launch Single-Use VM Base Image Server ADMINS
Allows admins to provision disposable VMs for temporary workloads directly from the Servers interface. - Disposable VM Support for VMware and Nutanix ARCHITECTURAL CHANGE
Adds API-level support for one-time-use VMs across VMware and Nutanix platforms for hybrid deployments.
Localization
- UI Text Corrections and Consistency STUDENTS FACULTY
Fixes minor UI text mismatches and spelling errors in menus and resource hub areas for better clarity.
User Access
- Reminder Email STUDENTS FACULTY ADMINS
Extends the expiration of a user’s welcome or forgot password email to 5 days. After the fourth day, the system will send a reminder email with 24-hour expiration notice.
Software Maintenance
- Maintainability Improvements ARCHITECTURAL CHANGE
Internal code changes to improve readability and maintainability. - Dependency Upgrades ARCHITECTURAL CHANGE
Updates critical dependencies to newer framework/resource versions for security and performance. - Automated Security Checks ARCHITECTURAL CHANGE
Adds internal workflows for vulnerability checks. - LDAP Authentication Fixes ARCHITECTURAL CHANGE
Resolves issues with LDAP login and certificate duplication.
